Let’s TALK 2026: Growing the Courage to Speak English in Elementary School
Let’s TALK 2026, a community service project by the Leadership and Communication (LnC) students of CAMPUHAN College, was successfully carried out for 5th‑grade students at SDN 6 Singakerta from January to February. What began as a Project Cycle Management (PCM) assignment evolved into a two‑month experience that nurtured courage, confidence, and warm human connections between young facilitators and elementary school students.
Let’s TALK—short for Teaching, Accompanying, Love, and Keenness—carries the spirit of Educare, its predecessor project rooted in Living Values Education. Although it comes with a new name, the essence remains the same: creating a learning space where every child feels loved, understood, respected, valued, and safe. It is in environment like these that education rediscovers its warmth.
Children Are Capable, They Just Haven’t Found Their Courage Yet

Through a pre‑test with 34 5th‑grade students, facilitators discovered that the children actually understood English, but lacked confidence in using it. This finding became the foundation of Let’s TALK: not to add more memorization, but to build the courage to try using English in a safe and enjoyable environment.
A Warm and Adaptive Learning Process
LnC students designed this project from the ground up; from needs assessment, problem‑tree design, and log frame development, to teaching simulations. Every Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30 WITA, they came as accompanying facilitators not as all‑knowing teachers, but as learning companions. Although the schedule shifted several times due to external factors, their commitment remained the same: to create a learning space that is warm, safe, and full of support.
Changes in the Children
At first, many students appeared shy or afraid of making mistakes. But through games, simple dialogue practice, and a loving approach, their courage slowly began to grow.
“I didn’t like English. But since learning with brother, I’ve started to like it,” said Nadia.
“Sister, I’m starting to be able to speak English now. Thank you, brother and sister from CAMPUHAN College,” added Risma.
Small changes like these are proof that Let’s TALK is not just a learning activity; it is an experience that transforms how children see themselves.

Growth Among the Young Facilitators
Transformation also happened among the facilitators. Many began with doubts or low confidence, but the teaching experience helped them grow.
“Honestly, the challenges I faced while teaching at the school really helped me build my confidence. For me, it wasn’t only the elementary students who were learning; we as facilitators learned a lot from them too,” shared Dewa Ayu Eka Santi Dewi, one of the Let’s TALK facilitators.
Throughout Let’s TALK, every LnC students learned to manage a classroom, work as a team, and embody educational values in every interaction.
A Yearly Tradition That Creates Impact
Let’s TALK has now become an annual tradition at CAMPUHAN College. Each LnC cohort visits schools to put their classroom learning into practice and give back to the community. The hope is simple: that more children dare to dream, dare to try, and that more safe learning spaces emerge through the practice of human values.

Let’s Collaborate
Let’s TALK is open to collaborating with schools and institutions that share the same commitment. If you wish to collaborate or learn more about this project, our doors are always open.
Together, let’s bring forward an education that is more humane, warmer, and filled with love. (bg)
