Self-Care and Character Building through LVE Workshop at SMPN 1 Pupuan!

SMP Negeri 1 Pupuan, in collaboration with Karuna Bali Foundation as the Living Values Indonesia Association through Capung Melajah, successfully held a three-day Living Values Education (LVE) workshop from February 14th to 16th, 2025. The workshop was attended by 20 participants, consisting of 17 educators, 1 parent, the principal, and the vice principal. The event began with a welcome speech from the school principal and representatives from the Tabanan Regency Education Office, represented by the relevant Head of Department.
In this workshop, Wayan Rustiasa, a certified LVE trainer, led the sessions with the support of two facilitators from Karuna Bali, I Gede Supardika and Ni Nyoman Triantari. Over the course of three days, participants were encouraged to connect more deeply with themselves through various sessions and skill practises.

Self-Reflection: Finding Space for Self-Care
The workshop began with a reflection session where participants were invited to pause, calm themselves, and shed their identities as educators. The goal was to allow them to rest their minds from daily responsibilities. Teachers, who usually focus on students, family, and community, often forget the importance of self-care.

"Through the LVE workshop, teachers were given space to reflect on themselves and enjoy various refreshing and enjoyable activities."

Values Awareness: Recognizing Core Values and Finding Meaning in the Teaching Profession
In the Value Awareness session, participants were encouraged to reflect on how their values have developed since childhood and how these values influence their daily lives. Reflective questions were posed to help participants recognize the values that drive them to choose the teaching profession. This process helped participants identify six core values within themselves, refreshing their motivation as educators.

Creating a Value-Based Atmosphere
The workshop continued with the Dream School Visualization session, where participants were invited to recognize the attitudes, behaviors, and values they wanted to instill in the school environment. From here, participants formulated the best practices to bring to life the five basic emotional needs: Safe, Valued, Respected, Understood, and Loved.
Various other sessions were also offered, such as activities centered on the values of peace and love, skills in giving recognition and encouragement through praise, active listening, conflict resolution, self-evaluation, and action plans. Core activities were interspersed with games, singing, role-playing, and art activities, making the workshop enjoyable and uplifting for participants.

Refreshing Holistic Workshop
The Living Values Education (LVE) workshop at SMP Negeri 1 Pupuan was not just an ordinary workshop but also a space for reflection and rejuvenation for educators. With a holistic and experiential approach, this workshop not only helped teachers implement character education but also gave them the opportunity to care for themselves, recall the values that inspired them to become educators, and build a more harmonious and loving school community. Hopefully, this workshop marks the beginning of a continuous effort in creating a better educational environment for teachers and students!

What Participants Say:
The enthusiasm of the participants was palpable throughout the workshop. Ni Putu Sri Astuti expressed: “For the first time, I feel so excited to attend a workshop. My mind and body feel refreshed, and my burdens feel lifted.”
Meanwhile, I Wayan Arsa Winata, the Vice Principal, said: “At our school, we initially only had two driving teachers, and after the LVE workshop, we have 20 teachers ready to drive the school towards a better direction. I am confident that SMP Negeri 1 Pupuan will advance even further.”
I Made Suardana, a Guidance Counselor, also shared: “I am very grateful for the organization of this workshop. I gained a lot of knowledge.”
