More Than Just a Technique: Changing How to Respond for a Healthier Relationship
Amid the fast-pace of daily interactions, communication is often simply seen as the ability to convey a message. However, communication is also about how we present ourselves fully, listen mindfully, and respond appropriately. Based on this awareness, Capung Melajah conducted the “Express it Right Workshop: Effective Communication and Positive Responses” on Saturday, April 18, 2026. This was intended to be an informative, reflective and transformative learning space.

Through this program, participants were encouraged to reflect on their communication style and recognized how their response pattern affects the quality of their relationship. This experience was echoed by one participant. They shared, "I just realized that communication isn't just about speaking. It's also about active listening and understanding others."
To enhance these skills, the workshop emphasized hands-on approaches such as discussions, reflection, and role-playing to practice assertiveness. These practical sessions provided a safe space that is rarely found in everyday life; participants had the opportunity to try things out, make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes. One participant wrote, “Role-playing session was the most memorable part because it allowed me to immediately practice and understand what I need in communicating in daily context”.

More than just a technique, this activity helps participants reconnect with themselves and become aware of the feelings and needs behind each response. This awareness serves as the foundation for building healthier and more open relationships. Ultimately, “Express it Right” serves as a reminder that good communication isn’t limited to the words we speak, but is about being fully present when listening to, understanding, and responding to others.
